Workshop on Image Analysis in Lifescience Research (IALR) - 2019

About the Workshop

Digital image analysis is among the rapidly growing technologies, especially in the field of Life sciences, as it is a method to perform operations on an image, in order to get an enhanced image or to extract some useful information from it by using digital image processing technique. It forms a core research area within engineering and computer science disciplines too. Deriving exact information from an image through suitable image processing methods and quantitative evaluation have a pivotal role in various life science research areas such as cell biology, molecular biology, and neuroscience. Imaging experiments have become the main source of data for biologists to test and validate hypotheses related to basic cellular and molecular phenomena. The development of fluorescent probes and the recent advances in microscopic image acquisition systems has made image-processing techniques more reliable and powerful. This three-day workshop on “Image Analysis in Lifescience Research” mainly focuses on the various computer-aided analysis of digital images. The workshop includes lectures and training sessions lead by a group of experts in the field. The workshop targets Faculty Members, Scientists, Researchers and those who handle images as part of their work. The hands-on training is expected to provide the participants with insights and knowledge on the following topics.

  • Understanding digital images
  • Image Processing
  • Image Analysis
  • Advanced image processing functions
  • Image analysis vs Image editing
  • Handling images with Image Editors
  • Image processing for scientific communication
